Hiroya Oku’s sci-fi action manga “GANTZ” is being adapted into two live-action films planned to be released in 2011. The movies will star Arashi boyband’s member Kazunari Ninomiya (26) and actor Kenichi Matsuyama (24, L from Death Note). Filming starts next month and is slated to end next year, April.

Shinsuke Sato is directing the films, which have reportedly been given a budget of 4 billion yen, with lots of CG involved. It is said that producers are aiming to make the film suitable for general audiences, which means that it may likely lack the violence of the original manga.

I have heard of Gantz before, but never bothered to check it out =3. So here is a little more information of Gantz for folks who don’t know either ^^”:

“GANTZ” has been serialized in Young Jump since 2000. Kei Kurono (Ninomiya) and Masaru Kato (Matsuyama) are two young man who should be dead after a train accident, but they are summoned back to life by an entity known as GANTZ. Under GANTZ’s orders, the two are repeatedly sent on missions to fight against alien beings. So far, 26 volumes of the manga have been released in Japan, selling more than 10 million copies combined.  [TokyoGraph]

Expect the catch the first movie in Winter 2011, and the second movie in Spring 2011.

Any folks who caught the manga or anime of Gantz before? Is it good?

its awesome shit… at first its really confusing and alot of things unanswered but as the story goes slowly, it reveals what is GANTZ purpose of these missions it ordered… very detail the manga… the anime sucks bad cause its a different plot line than the manga..
its my kind of manga to read… complicate like ghost in the shell… now in the manga its the climax, everything is being answered and ithe reasons are totally unexpected. the character is from a jerk who is a coward (i hated him at first) turns to a badass leader… most fave manga in my list

I absolutely LOVE the manga version and what they did make of the Anime version. It’s such a neat concept and I cannot wait for it to come out as a live action!

The manga is really good I liked the way they realistically represent people and the main character starts off as a selfish coward although some characters actions are a little to stupid at points. I enjoyed the anime which i watched first although it was ridicuasly slow paced but still good. To be honest with how good the manga gets after where the anime ends off I really think they would be way better off just kick starting the anime again. Its a shame their gona reduce the violence as well seeing as its the personality or what ever of the show
